Charming Murrina Glass: The Tradition of Murano Glass Art
Our Murrina Plates take life thanks to the expert hands of our glass masters that with the centenary tradition of the Murano Glass Handcrafting.
Since the 20th century, this specific technique has been refined so that the molten glass contained in the various crucibles will take the shape of a cane and then of the finished object. In order to recreate the above-mentioned (“canna”), a small mass of colored glass with a cylindrical shape is taken out of the furnace. The patterns created will look like a flower one, a star pattern, or one with concentric circles. After this first processing, different layers of various colors are then applied by immersion in crucibles containing molten glass. The effect will be astonishing! After this, one of the most charming and gentle phases of the production takes place. Two glassmakers collaborate to create the finished work: first, a short iron rod (consaùra) is attached to the open end of the glass cylinder while still smooth; second, the two of them move apart from each other and, with tailored movements, they turn the big glass cylinder into the shape of a long slender cane of the wanted diameter.
These Murrina Plates come in all kinds of colors, and in different shapes, but the main ingredient is always elegance!
As it seems, poetry is not only through words, but also through movements, colors, shapes, and especially, tradition. For three generations these artisanal skills have been passed from one glass master to another, giving us the opportunity today to admire these art pieces in their entirety.
