Calcedony: Reflections of Murano Glass Art Tradition

Calcedony offers the most expressive illustration of how glass can become a piece of art: it is a dark and opaque vitreous material, with the peculiarity of the numerous variations of its nuances, which are most of the time unpredictable even by the most experienced glass masters. The recipe is based on silver nitrate and on other components that are considered “secret”. It was invented in the 15^th century and forgotten until the 20^th century. It owes its name to the chromatic richness that is reminiscent of Calcedony Quartz.

Our amazingly skilled Glass Master, Oscar Zanetti, predilects the infinite beauty of the naturalistic subjects, inspired by the stunning Venetian Lagoon’s wildlife, but there is more! Even some Figurative & Abstract Sculptures are present in the collection. The Sculptures representingthese Venetian beauties (Horses, Birds, Fishes, the Abstract Ones…) are in Solid Glass of Superior Quality, entirely Hand Made and signed by the artist himself.

Oscar Zanetti is keener on letting the color speak alone, thus he favors ample forms and flat surfaces for this type of glass. By combining the Calcedony with transparent glass, we can totally catch and highlight the nuances, from all the angles.

These stunning creations representing figures of animals, such as seagulls with their wings spread to sustain one another or rays whose bodies seem to reflect the light that filters under the surface of the sea, are Art Pieces. Even the Abstracr ones take life under the marvelous reflections that the Calcedony can offer with its characteristics.
