Generation after generation, the family of Gianni Seguso keeps the art of glass alive. In contrast to the ethereal elegance of the finished object, this art is performed under extreme conditions. Fire, sweat, grueling physical and mental focus. A material approach that has remained intact for ten centuries and continues to forge priceless masterpieces.
Gianni Seguso, owner of the art glass workshop by the same name, remembers his debut alongside his father. “I had the blessing of growing professionally with him. He could make anything, and even became a drinking-glass master at the age of sixteen! In his later years, he would produce any sort of object, including sculptures designed by famous artists, but especially magnificent chandeliers”.
These few statements capture the work philosophy of Gianni Seguso. As his father, he believes and invests in youth, personally training the master glassmakers that work in his furnace today. While enjoying freedom of expression, they always operate within high quality standards, essential requisite and “signature” of the entire production. Even though many of his furnace’s creations have a classic style (like the “Ca’ Rezzonico” style chandeliers), he devotes much of his energy looking for new shapes and ideas.
This is how the ancient heart of tradition, represented by the careful ritualistic movements that are cherished as crucial inheritance of the old masters, is joined to a desire for creativity and constant renewal, to breathe new life into the thousand-year old art of Murano glass. and it is with this philosophy that GioVe was born, a new line of jewellery risen within the furnace.
The GioVe project springs from the creative energy of Gioia and Veronica. They come from an historic family heritage in glass-making and a common passion for jewellery and fashion. Together, they have embarked on this journey by unleashing their imagination on lamp-work beads to create new lines of necklaces and accessories, enhanced by gold and silver leaf, with a meticulous care for details and searching new shapes, materials, and colours. The furnace has a central role since it is a source of inspiration, learning and memories.
The Seguso Gianni glass-making furnace is a member of the Promovetro Consortium, which gathers glass-making companies that follow the traditional Murano glass criteria. Its identification code is n. 032 of the “Vetro Artistico®Murano” trademark, certification accorded only to glassmaking furnaces in Murano.
