Alessandro Mandruzzato has played with the three dimensions in this collection.

Two tongues of different colours, one blue and the other turquoise, surround this "sommerso" vase, which recalls a Roman amphora.

The outer surface is textured, almost like sheets of ice broken by the forces of nature: the life of glass as a raw material permeates this piece with an irresistible force. Blue Blood is available in two sizes.

Alessandro Mandruzzato

Alessandro Mandruzzato was born in Venice in 1970. At the age of 15 he started to follow in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps, applying himself to the ancient muranese art and working in the family’s glass-bevelling workshop.

The Mandruzzato family has lived and worked in Murano for three generations. Alessandro’s grandfather Luigi opened his workshop in 1934, in the same place as it is today, a location very dear to his heart as he had lived there before — the workshop is built on the foundations of an old boarding school. Here, along with his son Gianfranco, he began developing new and experimental techniques. Starting in 1956, thanks to an innovative marketing technique and experimental design, they captured the attention of the international artistic scene, participating in numerous events in Italy and abroad, working with artists of the caliber of Pablo Picasso.

In 2000, Alessandro took on the management of the family workshop, giving life to the “Alessandro Mandruzzato” brand. He chooses to remain faithful to the ancient techniques of the island’s glassmakers, while experimenting with many aspects of glass-bevelling techniques, pushing limits to its most extreme and avant-garde applications, giving life to exclusive art. Each piece is absolutely unique and can be considered “autobiographical”, a mark of transformaiton of raw material, a representation of human sentiment or a moment in a life experience. Artwork by Alessandro Mandruzzato are exposed in many galleries and museums in Venice, Milan, New York, Paris, Moscow and Dubai, and are part of the permanent collection at the famous Library of Alexandria in Egypt, and at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The “Alessandro Mandruzzato” is a member of the Promovetro Consortium, which gathers glass-making companies that follow the traditional Murano glass criteria, and it is identified by code n. 038 of the “Vetro Artistico®Murano” trademark, certification accorded only to furnaces that manufacture glass in Murano..
