The splendid Murano glass beads that compose this unique necklace are born from a centuries-old tradition.
This necklace features two "tosca" dark gold beads, five aventurine and gold beads, round and elongated, alternating with amber and red "moretto" and crystal-cut beads: in the center, a large amber "moretto" bead stands out between two gold "moretto".

Each bead is completely handmade and the decorations are meticulously applied one by one by the “perlera”, the beadmaker: wearing one of these masterpieces means carrying a piece of the tradition of Murano glass.

LA PERLA VENEZIANA Snc di Ferrari Renata & C

La Perla Veneziana comes from a family history: Renata and Giorgia Ferrari learned the ancient craft of lamp-work bead-making from their mother Adelina, in true Murano tradition.

The union between this ancient process and the knowledge of fashion and colour is the engine that drives every one of their collections. The company maintains the exquisitely feminine feel of the ancient Venetian bead-making workshops: creativity, attention to detail and colour combinations, femininity are at the core of every single product.

Each bead is created with ideal precision and unhurriedness: "Nothing is left to chance, on the contrary, each detail is born from the interpretation of a desire, a dream, a need, in which glass is worked and molded just as in olden days, harmonizing with today's fashion, colours and transparencies".

Classic and modern, ancient techniques and experimentation, blend to achieve unique, original products in the creations of La Perla Veneziana.

BEADS

There are many types of Murano glass beads. A first distinction can be between solid and blown beads, and they can all be categorized in three types: "conterie", "rosette" and "perle a lume".

The first two are obtained by processing previously prepared patterned canes, whereas the lampwork beads, "perle a lume", are created by wrapping glass, melted by a small gas flame, around a fine iron rod, and embellished in infinite ways.

There are several subcategories within lampwork beads.

The "scièta" bead is monochromatic, and its shape can be spherical, ovoid, cubic, cylindric.

There is the so-called mosaic bead, also called "millefiori", obtained by covering the hot glass core with numerous tiny sections of murrine, pressing them together with special tools.

Another type is the "submerged" bead, produced by coating the plain glass core with coloured glass grit, then covering it all with clear glass. If, instead of coloured glass, gold or silver leaf is used, the result will be a gold or silver "sommerso".

There are also "flowered" beads, in which a thin strip of aventurine is wrapped around the incandescent core, and subsequently decorated with raised embellishments. "Vette" beads are made in the same way, except fine twisted strands of coloured glass are wrapped around the core, instead of strips; the filaments are called "vette".
